Welcome Father Michael Grieco

Father Michael Grieco  (pronounced “Greek-o”)

Fr GriecoI was born in May 1957 in New Jersey. My family moved to California in January 1959.
I was raised in Palos Verdes in St. John Fisher Parish. My family is among the founding members of the parish. My mother passed away in 2016. My father passed in 2006. I miss them very much.

I come from a family of six children. I attended public school in Palos Verdes, and graduated from Rolling Hills High School in 1975. I attended my freshman year of college at Cal State Dominguez Hills before entering St. John’s Seminary College in Camarillo in 1976. It was during my first year of college that I discovered my vocation to the priesthood. I graduated from the Seminary College in 1979 – from St. John’s Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 1983. I was ordained to the Diaconate in 1982 and the Priesthood in June 1983. Last month I celebrated my 35th Ordination Anniversary.

As a priest, I have served at several parish throughout the diocese. My most recent assignments were at: St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Santa Clarita, St. Paschal Baylon in Thousand Oaks, and Holy Trinity Church, in San Pedro.

I enjoy preaching. My aim is to break open the Word of God to try and understand the message God has for us today. I try and take time to pray and reflect. I am blessed with a great Spiritual Director plus a Priest Support Group.

I am very lucky and have traveled much. My favorite destination is the Holy Land. I have taken several pilgrimage groups to Israel. Those trips have helped to bring the Sacred Scriptures alive.

I look forward to being your priest here at St. Barnabas.
