This ministry is open to all children of our Parish — Grades 4 and higher and has received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
Serving at the altar, Pope Francis told the young people, is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus, which in turn “enables you to open yourselves to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them.”
“The closer you are to the altar,” he told them, “The more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received.

Just a few notes:
Reverence: We’ve had a few more concerns expressed lately about servers being distracted on the Altar. These are kids, and they are all doing their best up there. What parents can do to help is issue a loving reminder before Mass, and then don’t distract them by waving to them or otherwise signaling them during Mass. If Parishioners are confronting your children with “tips” or criticism, please gently redirect the conversation and let me know. (Altar Servers are to NOT have any chewing gum, while serving at Mass)
CRITERIA TO BE AN ALTAR SERVER: CHILDREN WHO ARE GOING INTO 4TH GRADE OR OLDER AND HAVE COMPLETED THEIR FIRST COMMUNION. For children who recently attended the training, please “shadow” a current altar server at least 3 times. Please have your child arrive 15 minutes before mass.
ALL REGULAR MASSES ARE GOOD TOWARDS THEIR SERVICE HOURS TOO!!!
